UEM, a Toshiba Group company, wins Rs.132.6 crore EPC contract from Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company

NEW DELHI— UEM, a water services company of Toshiba Group in India, today announced winning an engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC) to supply a comprehensive sewerage system in Sahibganj in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.

The contract encompasses the construction of two sewage treatment plants (STP) based on sequencing batch reactor technology (SBR), with 5- and 7-million litter per day capacities, along with a 55-kilometre sewerage network and seven pumping stations. It also covers 10 years of operation and maintenance services (O&M), and has a total value of Rs.132.6 crore. UEM received the contract from Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO), which operates under the administrative control of the Urban Development Department of Jharkhand’s state government.

Mr. Koichi Matsui, Chairperson and Managing Director of UEM said, “We are honoured that JUIDCO chose us as a partner in infrastructure development. I am sure this decision reflects our expertise in wastewater treatment and the extensive O&M experience we have gained through significant contracts in other Indian cities. The Sahibganj contract is a testimony to our expertise in commissioning similar projects and managing the technology and funding structure, and reinforces our already strong record for delivering cost-effective solutions for wastewater management.

JUIDCO shares the responsibility for planned development of various infrastructure facilities and essential services for Sahibganj, including sewage treatment and sanitation, and solid waste management. Sahibganj being the only district of Jharkhand through which the river Ganga passes, the proper treatment and disposal of wastewater becomes even more paramount.

Funded by the World Bank, the Sahibganj project is a result of an MOU between the State Government of Jharkhand, Sahibganj Nagar Parishad and MoWR (Ministry of Water Resources) under the NGRBA (National Ganga River Basin Authority) Programme.

UEM has successfully carried out similar SBR projects in other parts of India, and is currently executing STP based on SBR technology in Allahabad and Kozhikode. UEM also has O&M experience of STP plants in Gurgaon and Ghaziabad.
