Bartica Water Supply Rehabilitation Project
The Bartica Water Treatment Plant, located on the bank of
Essiquibo River, is a 3.5 MLD treatment plant supplying treated
water to a locality of approximately 12,000 people. The treatment
plant draws water from the Essiquibo river. The water is
characterized by high color & iron content, mediocre turbidity
and extremely low pH & alkalinity. To make the river water
potable (within the World Health Organization's drinking water
standards) the following process units were included in the
treatment scheme:
- On line static mixer for adequately mixing the chemicals
- 2 Nos. solid contact clariflocculators each with sludge
scrapping mechanism and a flocculation zone with a turbine
mixer
- 2 Nos. dual media pressure filters
- 500 M3 chlorine contact / reservoir tank
- Chemical dosing system comprising of lime, alum & polymer
dosing facilities
- Chlorine dosing facilities for disinfection
The following eletro-mechanical equipment was installed in the
project:
- 2 Nos. 40 lps raw water pumps
- 3 Nos. 20 lps booster pumps
- 2 Nos. backwash pumps
- 2 Nos. air blowers
- 1 No. service water pump
- Chemical dosing pumps, mixers and tanks
- Chlorine dosing system
- 250 KVa standby generator with a 10M3 diesel storage
tank
