Bristol Myers Squibb manufactures pharmaceutical and health care products at their Ecuador facility. This facility is one of the largest medicinal products facilities serving the Latin and South American markets. The facility generates wastewater and sewage and was in need of a treatment plant that would meet the discharge requirements before its discharge to the local tributary.
Accordingly, Bristol Myers Squibb chose UEM Inc., USA to install the Treatment System for a design flow of 150 M3/day with a BOD of 500 mg/l and a COD of 1,000 mg/l. UEM provided a unique design for the aeration tank and the secondary clarifier, both of which are in a glass fused to steel bolted tank design.
UEM designed and installed the wastewater treatment plant for Bristol Myers at their Ecuador facility and the plant has been running successfully since its installation.
This was the first project awarded by BMS to UEM. UEM provided a complete turnkey solution to BMS as well as an operator for a period of four months to operate and train the BMS local employees to safely run the plant after its handover to BMS.
