LaBonne Intention Water Supply Rehabilitation Project

The La Bonne Intention project consisted of the rehabilitation of two 14.6 MLD treatment plants and three 400 M3 elevated surge tanks. The project also included laying over 16 km of feeder and transmission mains. The project, located on the east coast of Demerara, had an execution time of 12 months. The two treatment plants treat raw water from 1500 feet deep 'B'-sand aquifers. The raw water is characterized by a high concentration of dissolved gases and a small concentration of iron.

The treatment plants consist of the following:

The new transmission main is fed by the two treatment plants on the project by feeder mains. The transmission main is also connected to the three surge tanks located intermittently along the mains by feeder lines. These tanks fill and decant automatically based on the pressure developed in the transmission mains. The tanks are controlled by altitude valves installed on the feeder of each tank. The transmission main is also provided with distribution connections, each with an isolation valve, a pressure reducing valve and a downstream isolation valve. Some of these distribution connections are also provided with turbine type flow meters with logging facilities.

The complete project was designed, installed & commissioned by UEM. The commissioning of the project was completed by September, 2003 and the project was finally handed over to the client at the end of September.
