PTA Wastewater Treatment Systems

Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), a subsidiary of Reliance Group (Ambani's), is the only PTA producer in India and has two PTA Plants at Hazira, Gujarat and one at Patalganga, Maharashtra.

The treatment system Reliance had in place for its Patalgana plant consisted of an Aerobic Activated Sludge Process using Surface Aerators as well as Pure Oxygen, a mixed bed Anaerobic System, and Pilot Scale UASB alone systems. Reliance selected a two stage Hybrid Anaerobic Digester System for each of their Hazira PTA Plants.

UEM was awarded these jobs in the face of stiff competition from Zimpro, Paques and Biothane, for both the PTA-I Plant (27 Tons/day COD load from 230 M3/hr. flow) and the PTA-II plant (36.5 Tons/day COD load from 240 M3/hr. flow).

The high COD effluent generated from Reliance's MEG and POY plants is also being treated with the PTA-II wastewater. Subsequently, the conversion of the Anitron Digester (Mixed bed) into a Hybrid system was included in UEM's scope. The plants have been achieving guaranteed BOD/COD reductions.
