Raw Water Treatment System

Reliance Petroleum Ltd. (RPL), a company belonging to Reliance Group (Ambani's) in India, have put up world's largest grass root level Petroleum Refinery with 27 MT crude processing capacity at Jamnagar in Gujarat state of India. The source of raw water for various processes and other requirements is seawater. Bechtel, U.K. was appointed as EPC contractor for this Refinery Project.

The team of Reliance & Bechtel Engineers chose UEM India Limited to install the world's largest seawater filtration system (Raw Water Treatment System) which has been designed to treat 10,800 M3/hr (260 MLD) of seawater with TSS levels of 50-250 mg/l and achieve the treated water TSS levels of less than 5 mg/l. This prestigious project was awarded to UEM after very stiff competition from various technologies offered by world renowned water treatment companies. The plant was commissioned successfully in February, 1999 and has been achieving less than 5 mg/l TSS in the treated water since.

The treatment system was installed by UEM with a technical tie-up from Graver Water, USA. The treatment system incorporates Flash Mixers, Two Stage Flocculators, Lamella Clarifiers cum Sludge Thickeners and Autobackwash Dual Media Gravity Filters in 4 equal size trains configuration. The entire system is controlled by PLC for automatic operation.
